Congestion in Hitchin is a real problem. It makes it harder for local people to get around town and it results in worsened air quality, impacting on everyone's health. To tackle this problem, I believe we need to take cars off the street - not with punitive measures like low traffic neighbourhoods, but by making it easier and safer for people who want to walk or cycle around our town to do so.
That's why I am campaigning to open up the Eastern access to Hitchin Station to pedestrians and cyclists, providing an easy, safe and accessible way for people from the east of Hitchin to get to the Station. I know we can deliver this - I worked with Ministers to unlock millions in funding for eastern access through the Levelling Up Fund, but delays at our local Councils meant Hitchin lost out on this investment. Together, with your support, I will continue to work to deliver a lasting solution here that will help to alleviate congestion in Hitchin.
