Bim Afolami MP has welcomed the news that Councils covering his constituency are set to receive more than £800k to help tackle rough sleeping.
North Hertfordshire District Council have been awarded £549k and St. Albans City & District Council have been awarded £314k from the Government’s new £34.6m funding, allocated as part of efforts to provide up to 4,300 additional beds through the Rough Sleeping Initiative. The Government’s Rough Sleeping Strategy is backed by £2bn in total funding and has already helped to provide 14,000 beds for rough sleepers – with 3,000 staff to support rough sleepers across England.
Bim Afolami MP said,
“The Government is totally committed to its manifesto commitment to end rough sleeping in this Parliament – and the Rough Sleeping Strategy is already helping thousands of rough sleepers across the country. I welcome that the Government has made this additional funding available for our local Councils, to help provide additional beds for rough sleepers in Hitchin, Harpenden and the villages.
“This is vital funding, which will make a real difference.”
