Bim Afolami MP, Member of Parliament for Hitchin & Harpenden, visited the Lister Hospital in Stevenage – which serves many of his constituents – to find out more about a £10m investment they are making in vascular services.
The investment – funded by the Department for Health & Social Care and the Hertfordshire & West Essex Integrated Care Board – will fund a new state-of-the-art hybrid theatre for vascular services at the Lister. The hybrid theatre will be a combined operating theatre and interventional radiology suite – using minimally invasive techniques to help treat patients with problems with their arteries, veins and lymphatics, improving the patient experience and patient outcomes – and reducing hospital stays.
The theatre is due to open in Spring 2024.
Bim Afolami MP said,
“As the son of an NHS doctor and a pharmacist, I understand how important it is that we have outstanding local healthcare services. We’re making real progress towards that – and this investment will be a big boost to a really important area of specialised treatment in our local area. Coming on the back of securing a specialist Cancer Hospital for our region through the New Hospitals Programme, it will help to contribute towards our plan to cut waiting lists and improve outcomes.”
