Hitchin & Harpenden Member of Parliament Bim Afolami visited the site of a new specialist cancer hospital in Cambridge, which will serve his constituents in Hitchin & Harpenden, on Tuesday 25th July.
Mr Afolami has long been campaigning for the new Cancer Hospital, alongside his support for a new Children’s Hospital at the same site in Cambridge. The Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital was included in the Government’s New Hospitals Programme earlier this year – marking a step forward for the plans to deliver the East of England’s first specialist Cancer Hospital.
During his visit, the Member of Parliament received an update on the next steps for the new Hospital. He also discussed the progress being made on delivering the new Children’s Hospital – with our region being the only NHS region without a specialist Children’s Hospital.
Bim Afolami MP said,
“We’re making great progress on our plan to improve healthcare for people in Hitchin, Harpenden and the villages. The new Cancer Hospital will be absolutely game changing for people in our communities – providing top-class specialist care right here in our region. I am delighted that this has been included in the Government’s New Hospital Programme and that all of our hard work to deliver this is starting to pay off.”
Claire Stoneham, Director of Strategy and Major Projects, CUH, said,
“It was a pleasure to update Bim on our plans for two new specialist hospitals for the East of England. We are making good progress on both projects, which continue to attract widespread regional support.”
