Officers from Hertfordshire County Council have committed to take measures to improve pedestrian safety on Willow Lane/Charlton Road.
Their commitment came during a site visit organised by Hitchin Member of Parliament Bim Afolami MP, who has been seeking improvements to protect pedestrians since a public meeting he held in the village of Charlton last year. Residents and Council officers joined the MP on Friday (10th March) to discuss potential solutions and areas of particular concern.
The County Council will now take action, taking measures to keep the pavement clear and investigating further traffic calming measures and other ways to keep pedestrians safe.
Bim Afolami MP said,
“Local residents have shared with me their concerns over safety for pedestrians and road users on Willow Lane/Charlton Road. It is clear to me that action needs to be taken here to protect local people – and I am very pleased that County Council officers have agreed with that assessment and will now progress an initial plan to improve safety. I will be closely following their progress in delivering this.
“Making Hitchin and the villages an even safer place to live, work and spend time is a key local priority and I will continue to work with local communities to identify ways in which we can do that.”
