This week I spent some time in Washington D.C. with the Coalition for Global Prosperity and fellow Parliamentarians to discuss some key UK-US issues, including development aid, climate and Ukraine. Read more about some of my meetings below!
Meeting with State Department officials - On the opening day of our visit we met with Karen Donfield, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, and senior State Department officials to discuss UK-US relations and key issues, including Ukraine.
Sitting down with senior directors at the World Bank Group - We also met with senior directors of the World Bank Group to discuss development aid and international efforts to tackle poverty and build prosperity in developing nations.
Speaking with senior US Senator Ben Cardin - On our second day we had a productive meeting with Senator Ben Cardin, a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to discuss how our countries can best work together on our shared priorities.
Meeting the Co-ordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council - We also met with Rear Admiral John Kirby, who is the current Co-ordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council to discuss global security and issues including the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Hearing about the work of the International Republican Institute - The International Republican Institute works to advance international freedom and democracy. On the third day we met with them to hear about their work and to discuss how they are working to strengthen ties between the US and its European allies - including the UK.
Sitting down with the British Ambassador to the United States - We also visited the UK Embassy to meet with the British Ambassador and discuss how we can work to deepen ties with the United States.
