Hitchin Member of Parliament Bim Afolami met with the School Council of St. Andrew’s C of E Primary School in Hitchin on Friday (10th February).
Mr Afolami was visiting the school to speak to Year 3 pupils as part of their lessons on democracy and what it means to live in a democratic country. The Member of Parliament spoke to them about his work in Westminster and took their questions about life as an MP and the way our Parliamentary democracy functions.
He then met with the School’s Student Council to hear from them about their priorities for Hitchin and answer their questions. The children raised issues from disability-friendly play equipment in local parks, to access to public toilets in town.
Bim Afolami MP said,
“It is always a real pleasure to talk to young people about our democracy and life as a Member of Parliament. The pupils at St. Andrew’s School asked some really intelligent and insightful questions and it was a particular joy to meet with their Student Council and hear all about their elections and how they are representing their peers. I will take away the issues that they have told me are important to them and seek some answers on their behalf from the relevant local authorities.
“I look forward to seeing some of them in Parliament one day!”
