On Friday 21st October, Hitchin & Harpenden MP Bim Afolami visited the National Grid site in the Wymondleys in his constituency to discuss our local energy infrastructure.
Mr Afolami met with senior representatives from National Grid to hear more about the challenges of achieving a clean power supply, including how to connect new renewables generation to the grid and how capacity can be increased in energy infrastructure.
National Grid are fully committed to playing a lead role in the transition to Net Zero, by investing in and developing innovative solutions. National Grid’s networks are critical, and they are focused on efficient distribution of new, green energy to homes around the constituency.
As Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Renewable and Sustainable Energy, Mr Afolami has been a leading voice in Parliament on energy policy and the Net Zero transition. This meeting was an opportunity for Mr Afolami to hear from the National Grid about their plans to meet increased demand and take on new supply coming online from decentralised community renewable energy projects.
Bim Afolami MP said,
“I had a productive conversation with senior officials at National Grid about how we can work together on the Net Zero transition. Clean, homegrown energy is vital for our energy security and to stabilise energy prices. The grid needs to transform rapidly to increase capacity for rising demand and to bring online widely-distributed renewable energy being generated all around the UK, from the off-shore wind farms in the North Sea to the on-shore wind farms of northern Wales."
