Hitchin’s local Member of Parliament Bim Afolami MP was joined by Hertfordshire Constabulary to meet with dozens of residents who turned out to discuss local concerns over road safety. The meeting at the newly-reopened Windmill Pub in Charlton came about after a local resident contacted Mr Afolami to express their concern about the safety of pedestrians crossing Willow Lane/Charlton Road.
Mr Afolami listened to residents’ concerns around a number of road safety issues on Willow Lane/Charlton Road, including the lack of a safe pedestrian crossing, the width of pavements, speeding and overweight vehicles using the weight-limited road. Bim will now take residents’ concerns away and seek to secure action by the Highways Department at Hertfordshire County Council to improve safety for pedestrians and road users in and around Charlton.
Bim Afolami MP said,
“Improving safety on our roads is one of my top priorities as the local Member of Parliament and there are various stretches of road throughout the constituency that people are nervous about. With warm thanks to the residents of Charlton for coming along to the Windmill Pub to let me know their concerns about these particular problems on Willow Lane and Charlton Road.
I will work with residents to make sure that policy-makers in County Hall hear their concerns. I am confident that together we can ensure that action is taken by the County Council to deliver improvements to give pedestrians confidence to navigate Charlton free of danger”
