I was in the Chamber for the Spring Statement. The Chancellor outlined further measures to help working people with the cost of living, including:
- Slashing Fuel Duty by 5p.
- Increasing the National Insurance personal threshold to £12,750, a £6bn tax cut for nearly 30 million workers.
- Scrapping VAT on energy saving materials, like solar panels, heat pumps or insulation.
- Doubling the Household Support Fund which goes to local councils to support those most in need in our community to £1bn.
- Raising the Employment Allowance to £5,000, a £1,000 tax cut for small businesses.
- Cutting the basic rate of income tax to 19 pence from 2024.
I will continue working with Ministerial colleagues and others to do what we can to support people in Hitchin & Harpenden.
