This week the Government has set out new measures to help to deter fly-tipping, including new plans to ensure that DIY household waste is accepted for free at household waste recycling centres and a review of the use of booking systems, which may be making it harder for people to dispose of their waste. These are welcome steps, alongside previously announced measures to improve electronic waste tracking to monitor waste movements and tackle fly-tipping and plans to reform the Carrier, Broker and Dealer regime to increase competence and background checks needed to operate as a waste carrier, broker or dealer, and make it easier for regulators to enforce against non-compliant operators whilst making it harder for un-registered operators to find work in the sector.
I will continue to campaign for further measures to tackle fly-tipping and tougher sentences for those found guilty of this blight on our rural communities.
