Local Member of Parliament Bim Afolami MP joined the morning bus commute from Pirton to Hitchin on Friday (10th March) to get a first-hand experience of the pressures facing services.
Residents have been increasingly concerned about over-capacity services, with pupils (including young children) travelling from Pirton into Hitchin for school in the mornings facing unsafe conditions with cramped standing areas, and sometimes not being able to get on the bus at all.
Mr Afolami was joined by officers from Hertfordshire County Council and has been pushing the Council to provide a solution for local residents.
Bim Afolami MP said,
“Residents in Pirton have told me about the pressures on local bus services and I have now seen first-hand the issues with over-crowding. It is absolutely vital that local children should have a safe and convenient bus service to get to school in the morning and I will continue to explore every avenue available to us to deliver that.
“County Council officers have now seen this problem for themselves too and have assured me that they will take this problem away and try to find a solution. I will continue to engage strongly with them to ensure that we can deliver a real improvement for Pirton children.”
