Hitchin & Harpenden’s Member of Parliament Bim Afolami MP has welcomed the news that 196 more police officers will be on the streets of Hertfordshire thanks to the Conservative Government’s police officer uplift programme. These officers form part of the Government plans for 20,000 more police officers on our streets and will be deployed across Hertfordshire to keep local residents safe.
Bim Afolami MP said,
“Local residents have told me how important it is that we make Hitchin, Harpenden and the villages even safer. We all know that the best way to do that is with more police officers on the street – helping to tackle crime and keep people safe.
“I have been working with Ministerial colleagues and Hertfordshire’s Police & Crime Commissioner David Lloyd to deliver record numbers of police officers in Hertfordshire, and I am delighted that 196 new officers have been recruited locally as part of the Government's police officer uplift programme. I'll continue to work hard to make our communities safer and ensure that Hitchin, Harpenden and the villages get the officers they need out on the streets.”
Hertfordshire Police & Crime Commissioner David Lloyd said,
“The Conservative Government’s police uplift funding has helped Hertfordshire Constabulary to recruit 196 extra officers in 2022. At the end of December 2022 we had 2,273 officers compared to 1959 in March 2019. We now have the most police officers in the force’s history and the crimes about which the public are most concerned, such as domestic burglary, have fallen significantly over the same period. We promised more officers, and less crime, and we have delivered more officers and less crime.”
