Hitchin & Harpenden MP and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Renewable and Sustainable Energy, Bim Afolami, led a panel discussion in Westminster on the route to more affordable household energy bills. Mr Afolami was joined by the CEO of E.ON energy, Michael Lewis, Dhara Vyas of Energy UK, and Gillian Cooper, Head of Energy Policy at Citizens Advice as the panel considered Citizens Advice’s new “Insulation Nation” paper.
Bim Afolami MP said,
“Local people in Hitchin & Harpenden have seen the impact of rising global energy prices on their household finances this year. As we tackle the twin problems of global energy price shocks (caused in no small part by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine) and structurally high energy demand, the issue of insulation is more important than ever.
“It was a pleasure to chair a frank and engaging panel discussing Citizens Advice’s Insulation Nation paper, which looks in detail at how improving energy efficiency can save households on their energy bills. Homes and premises which are inefficient in their energy usage drive up energy bills for the families and businesses that occupy them.
With potentially up to £950 per year in savings for families in Hitchin & Harpenden, it is clear that driving energy efficiency can make a real difference for local people. As Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Renewable and Sustainable Energy and a member of Parliament’s Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee, I will continue to fight for better, cheaper insulation in homes across our community.”
