In March, I asked local residents to tell me their thoughts about the proposed expansions of Luton Airport. I would like to thank everyone who took the time to fill in this survey and share their views. More than half of you (52.3%) strongly opposed plans to expand the Airport to 19 million passengers per annum, with 69.8% of people showing some level of opposition to those plans. 66.2% of residents strongly opposed plans to expand to 32 million passengers, with 78.4% of people being opposed overall. The most common reasons given by residents were issues of noise and air pollution, the effect on our local transport infrastructure and the impact it would have on the environment.
I continue to do what I can to support local residents in their opposition to these plans for expansion. This survey supports what local people in Hitchin & Harpenden have been telling me, which is that a broad majority of people in our area do not wish to see the Airport expanded. I will keep fighting for residents against any plans to do so.
