Earth Day comes the day after the UK enshrined into law the world’s most ambitious commitment to reduce our carbon emissions by 78% by 2035. We must convert this global challenge into local action. That is why, with the help of community volunteers from The Woodland Trust and Parish Councils, we have planted 400 trees around the constituency.
The Woodland Trust provided a mix of 400 native saplings to kickstart the initiative, and their experts were on hand to offer advice from the offset. I am most grateful to them and our Parish Councils who work extremely hard and are key stewards for our local environment.
A special thanks to to Sandridge Parish Council, Kimpton Parish Council, Kimpton Working Bench Group and Ickleford Parish Council. Not only will these new trees offset carbon, but they will boost biodiversity offering new habitats for wildlife and pollinators.
