Today the Prime Minister set out further changes to lockdown measures to enable society to gradually reopen - as these steps are taken, it remains vital that everyone continues to follow social distancing guidelines.
The Government will continue to monitor the data and restrictions may be re-introduced if required.
From Saturday 4th July:
- The two-metre distancing rule will be replaced by a one metre distancing rule
- Two households of any size can meet inside - this does not have to be the same two households
- Multiple meetings of households indoors are still not recommended
- Places of worship will re-open for prayer, services and weddings with a maximum of 30 people all subject to social distancing
- Restaurants and pubs will be re-opened
- All hospitality indoors will be limited to table service and guidance encourages minimal staff and customer contact
- Cinemas, museums and galleries, outdoor gyms, libraries, theme parks, arcades, community centres and playgrounds will be re-opened
- Hairdressers will be reopened with appropriate precautions
- People are free to stay overnight in self-contained accommodation including hotels, bed & breakfasts and campsites as long as shared facilities are kept clean
- Recreation and sport will be allowed but indoor facilities e.g. changing rooms and courts will remain closed - people should only play close contact team sports with members of their households
At a later date TBC:
- Some other close contact services such as nail bars will be re-opened as soon as possible when the Government is confident they can operate in a COVID secure way
- Care for school aged children and formal childcare will restart over the summer
- Primary and secondary education to recommence in September with full attendance - children who can already do so should go to school
- Close proximity venues e.g. nightclubs, soft play areas, indoor gyms, waterparks, swimming pools, bowling alleys and spas will remain closed for now
People shielding:
- From Monday 6 July those shielding from coronavirus can gather in groups of up to 6 people outdoors and form a 'support bubble' with another household
- From Saturday 1 August, clinically extremely vulnerable people will no longer be advised to shield but support from NHS volunteers and local councils will remain, and they will still be able to access priority supermarket delivery slots and other help
