Hitchin’s Member of Parliament, Bim Afolami MP, visited Royde & Tucker – a manufacturing firm based on the industrial estate in Hitchin – on Friday 8th September to discuss support for local businesses.
The visit – part of a series of visits Mr Afolami has made to Hitchin businesses over the summer – comes after the Member of Parliament has called for Hitchin to become a “town of opportunity”, ideally sited between London and Cambridge to seize the benefits of economic growth and investment in the region to land new businesses and jobs.
During the visit, Mr Afolami met with Royde & Tucker’s senior leadership team and took a tour of their facility. They discussed support for local businesses and some of the challenges and opportunities of setting up shop in Hitchin.
Bim Afolami MP said,
“Bringing new jobs and investment to Hitchin is absolutely one of my top priorities. In order to do that, I need to understand the challenges businesses already in Hitchin are facing, so that we can work to make our town an even more attractive place to invest. I really enjoyed meeting the team at Royde & Tucker – as I did with my other business visits this summer, I will take away my learnings from them and feed them into my plans to support our local businesses and deliver more jobs.”
Paul Ramshaw, Operations Director at Royde & Tucker, said,
“It was important to meet Bim to discuss the various economic challenges including rising costs, supply chain, retaining staff, recruitment and the cost of living.”
“I was very proud to introduce Bim to the team and to showcase UK manufacturing with all the hard work they continue to carry out to deliver quality products to our valued customers whilst we as a business continue to strive to contribute effectively to our community here in North Herts and to the wider world in our pursuit of Carbon Net Zero, along with the rest of our UK construction industry.”
