Hitchin’s Member of Parliament Bim Afolami MP met with 14 year old local resident Zach Le Coze on Friday 24th March to hear about Zach’s efforts to raise funds for the 3rd Hitchin Scouts.
Zach is cycling 200 miles from North Hertfordshire to South Kent – initially to raise money for a school trip to Costa Rica. Now that he has surpassed his initial goal, he is hoping to reach £1,000, enabling him to give the surplus to the 3rd Hitchin Scouts.
Local Member of Parliament Bim Afolami MP said,
“It was great to meet Zach and hear about his brilliant fundraising efforts to raise money for the local Scouts. The Hitchin District Scouts do some great work locally and the money raised by Zach’s efforts will go a long way to helping them to support young people in our area.
“Please do support Zach’s fundraiser – he is a really inspirational local young person and he will be cycling 200 miles to raise money for this fantastic cause.”
When asked about his challenge, Zach said:
“The longest ride I had ever done until two months ago was about 10 miles, so I was probably crazy to think I could cycle 200 miles, from Hitchin to Folkestone! However, I really wanted to raise funds for the 3rd Hitchin Scouts, an organisation where I made many great memories and that does so much for young people.
“Whilst challenging myself physically, this has also taken me out on a fantastic journey. I have received donations from many people and support from businesses such as Cycledealia (a Hitchin cycle shop). I even met my local MP, Bim Afolami, who has been so encouraging. I am very grateful – now all I have to do is cycle 200 miles!”
Zach’s cycle ride will start on Wednesday April 12th in Hitchin and will finish on Saturday April 16th in Folkestone. You can support his GoFundMe at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/north-herts-to-south-kent.
