As a Member of Parliament I have no direct influence over individual planning matters, which are - rightly - the constitutional responsibility of local District Councillors. However, I do get involved in applications by engaging constructively to ensure that there is joined up thinking and that developments that do get approved help to fix - not exacerbate - problems in our communities.
For some time I have been working towards a permanent, long-term solution to reduce the impact of HGV movements on Hitchin’s residential roads. If the proposed Highover Farm development is approved, I believe that it should include a new HGV relief road connected to the industrial estate at Wilbury Way - and with planners having deferred the decision on this site I am now asking residents to show their support for that plan, so that we can protect our town from inappropriate HGV movements.
